Pumpkin Pie Martini

I know I should be blogging about Valentines Day and Spring and Summer weddings, but since I'm also working on a fall wedding for a client, I wanted to post this recipe for a great fall signature drink:

Pumpkin Pie Martini
Mix 1 oz. Vanilla Vodka,
1 oz. pumpkin liqueur,
½ oz. Bailey's Irish Cream,
a splash butterscotch Schnapps and ice

Shake, then pour and sprinkle with ¼ tsp. pumpkin pie spice.
For added "pie" effect, rim the glass with fresh lemon juice and crushed graham crackers.

Keeping your Bridesmaids Happy and Fed

Wedding days go by in a blink of a minute, or so it seems that way on the big day. So keep your bridesmaids and groomsmen happy by making sure they have something to nibble and sip on while you're taking photos.

Keep in mind not to include anything that is oily or can stain your dress, tuxes or your girls dresses. Clear liquids, crackers, grapes, and even finger sandwiches (hold the mustard and mayo!).

Having these snack boxes in the car or limo will help keep your attendants happy and save you time from having to stop through the drive-thru!

S'more Station for your Wedding

I love interactive stations for weddings. Not only do you get to share some of your favorite treats with your guests, but your guests get to move around and have some fun at the reception. So when we saw this latest idea we were really excited about the potential of this idea.

We also love the idea of sending guests home with their own S'more kits to continue the fun at home!

Table Number Idea

Yesterday while wandering around Pottery Barn for Holiday decor ideas (yes I'm thinking Christmas already!), I found these cute numbered mason jars. So as much as I was thinking Christmas, my mind always goes back to my favorite event - Weddings! How great would these be as table numbers? Fill each jar with a different type of candy - provide a scoop or some tongs, and encourage guests to share their treats with other tables!

Now Pottery Barn's jars only come numbered from 1-3 - so it's time to get creative and make our own. Here are some ideas:

Go to Ikea - yes that's right Ikea. Their Slom Jar is only $2.99 each and looks exactly like Pottery Barn's Mason jars.

Now go to Micheal's, get yourself some number or even alphabet stencils (you can put whatever name or number you'd like on your jar - maybe each table is named after the candy that's in the jar) and using paint that adheres to glass, stencil your jar.

What a simple and inexpensive way to create a unique way to number or name your tables!

Pew decorations

One of my brides was looking for some decorations for her ceremony. We tossed around the idea of pew bows, but when I dragged out what I had in my stash of decorations, they were just not going to cut it for her wedding. So I started doing some research on what we could do that would be inexpensive, but contemporary for her wedding.

First place I naturally go is to the Internet to search all my favorite blogs and websites. Naturally Martha Stewart Weddings was my source of inspiration for this project.

So I took some ribbon and tissue paper I had around the house, and here is my version of it:We're going to use hot pink and orange flowers for hers, with black ribbon, but we LOVE how these turned out and how easy they were to make!

Popcorn Bar

I'm a HUGE fan of Candy bars at weddings, birthday parties, holiday events, and any other kind of event you can think of. But now more and more brides and event planners are trying to think outside the box. So I got to thinking about my favorite food, POPCORN, and how much fun it could be at a wedding or other type of event. Kernels has so many amazing flavors and it is such an affordable option. Just fill glass containers with your favorite kinds, from Chocolate to Jalapeno Jack and you're set. Over at Wedding Star you can even purchase these cute Popcorn containers with cute stickers on them that would be perfect for your wedding! Don't like the containers? Visit Michael's or Creative Packaging and find some glassin bags or plastic bags, decorate with your choice of sticker and VOILA! A fun, interactive bar for your guest to munch on through the night or to take home to eat the next day!

You can also have fun with this idea with cookies too!

Escort Cards

Escort cards, or seating cards can be a fun and personalized item at your wedding. Some couples even tie them in with their favors. Depending on the size of your wedding you can have a seating chart and cards or just seating cards. Martha Stewart, The Knot and Brides.com have some terrific ideas. The inspiration board I've created above are just some of the fantastic finds from these sites. You can see that ideas range from tying in blooms to cookies! Actual cards are just a starting point! Wedding Programs

This is a neat idea to secure your wedding programs to the back of chairs. If you don't have ushers handing them out, this is a great way to get guests the information about the ceremony to them. Simply tuck your program into a little Glassine Bags (you can get them at www.creativepackaging.ca). Using double sided tape, stick the bag onto the back of the chair, and VOILA!

shoes, shoes and more shoes!!

What girl doesn't love her shoes? And your wedding is a perfect excuse to get some super cute shoes for the big day! And why stop at one pair? Get a sexy pair for your ceremony and pictures and make sure to get some comfortable shoes so you can dance the night away!

We love these from Neiman Marcus. Bride-to-be Corinne showed them to us and we really hope she gets them for her big day. How cute would these Manolo Blahniks look peeking out from underneath your dress?

Here's another super cute idea for your shoes, add something blue to the bottom of them. We found these Mindy Weiss appliques on Gracious Bride.com. You can also do your own take of them by visiting a craft store and purchasing these blue rhinestones and glueing them on yourself.

There - your something blue is now taken care of!

Guest book alternatives

Now more than ever couples are looking for unique ways to add personal touches to their weddings. In an earlier post we talked about alternatives for guest books such as the guestbook from Guestbookstore.com. Well here's another great idea that will last a lifetime - The Wish Tree.
There are a lot of different ways to do a wish tree. From finding branches and painting them to match your decor, or purchasing a metal tree (can be found online). But we love this next idea. Go to your local nursery and find a tree and a beautiful pot that matches your decor. You can even just cover the simple plastic pot it comes in with some amazing fabric and ribbon if you'd like. Use the tree as your wishing tree on the day of your wedding. Once you're done with it you can plant it in your backyard. You now have a constant reminder of your wedding day growing in your yard!

For the actual cards your guest write wishes on, you can use just about anything. You can design them yourself or have your stationary vendor design something special for you. Just thread some ribbon through the cards and ask guest to write down their wishes or advices for you. Here is a little poem you can put next to your tree:

As we begin our new journey as the new Mr. & Mrs.
We could surely use your advice and wishes.
Share with us your wisdom about marriage, love & life,
the secret to being a good husband or a top notch wife.
Jot down a memory of us or a reminder of our day.
A doodle or picture will do if you don't know what to say.
Please don't forget, to sign your name.
What ever you pen, we're sure to treasure
long after this day has passed

The bridesmaid dress

Many brides experience anxiety it comes when choosing their bridesmaid dresses. You want all your girls to looks incredible and love the dress, but you also have a vision. More and more brides now a days are letting their attendants customize their dress by giving them a color and some direction and then letting them choose the dress that they feel comfortable in. So when we came across Butter by Nadia we fell in love! Not only can bridesmaids each customize the way they wrap their dresses, but the dresses are one size fits all! No more alterations and worrying about getting your one bridesmaid who might live on the other side of the country together for a fitting! Have an attendant that's expecting? Again, no worries with this lovely dress! It comes in a great variety of colors and comes in jersey or satin, so you can pick the fabric that compliments your wedding style.

Oh and ladies, they do ship to Canada! We made sure to check for you.

You can order them through Benny and Shaw http://www.bennyandshaw.com/

Infusing your personality into your wedding

Finding little ways to personalize your wedding can be easy and so much fun. So when my husband and I got married we decided to use our love of football to have some fun. We cheer for two different teams and is the only thing we don't see eye to eye on. Pretty good odds if that continues to be the only thing!

Have some fun with your wedding photos once you've captured all those important shots. Do you and your fiance have a hobby you both love like golf or skiing? Find a way to bring some of those elements with you so you can have some fun with your photos. Getting married in a park? Pack a picnic basket and a blanket and take some shots as you relax over a sandwich! Have fun and make sure your photographer knows what you're up to ahead of time so they can plan accordingly.
